What to do to make the radiator heat up faster: three simple solutions

If your radiator is cold to the touch or slightly warm and you don't know how to fix it, one of three simple solutions is likely the answer.

This often happens when the flow of hot water is restricted or redirected. It is usually caused by a build-up of sediment. This means that hot water is not reaching the entire appliance. OBOZ.UA tells how to fix it.

Use a chemical cleaner

A chemical can be added to the radiator system that cleans the sludge, just as you would pour a sewer cleaner into a cork hole.

Add the cleaning agent to the system, let it heat up and "work" for an hour, then rinse it out and replace the water.

Clean the radiator by hand

If you don't want to use a chemical cleaner or have an engineer come in, you can remove and clean the radiator yourself.

This process is not too complicated; if only one radiator is affected, this may be all you need to do.

Rinse the radiators

The third and final solution is to flush the power supply if the first two options didn't solve the problem. This cleans all the radiators, not just one, so if you notice that several radiators are cold from the bottom, this might be the best solution for you.

Flushing is a complicated job that requires special equipment and knowledge, so it's worth leaving it to the professionals.

Plumbing professionals strongly recommend that you take care of your radiators by trying to prevent sediment buildup in the first place. The easiest way to do this is to introduce an inhibitor into the system.
