What the second season of Wednesday will be about and what new actors have joined the cast
After the huge success of the first season of Wednesday, Netflix has announced the renewal of the show, with the second season scheduled for release in 2025. The new season promises even more intrigue, as Wednesday Addams remains at the center of the action, and the plot will once again focus on her supernatural adventures at Nevermore Academy.
The series, created by Tim Burton and starring actress Jenna Ortega, has become Netflix's most popular original project with over 252 million views. This figure far surpassed shows such as Stranger Things and Bridgerton, according to Netflix.
Teaser for the second season
The new season of the series will be filmed in Ireland. Quite a change from the first season, which was shot in Romania. The success of the show made Romania a tourist destination for fans of the series, but logistical difficulties led to the decision to change the location. The second season is scheduled to start filming in April 2024. The pause caused by the Hollywood strikes previously delayed the start of production.
Cast
The first season of Wednesday received 12 Emmy nominations. The plot of the second season is being kept under wraps, but the show's creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, hint that the new episodes will give more screen time to the Addams family members. The series also plans to expand the focus on Wednesday's relationship with her mother Morticia, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. Along with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán and Isaac Ordóñez joined the main cast of the second season.
In addition to the regular actors who will return to the screens, new stars will appear in the second season. Among them are Joanna Lumley, who will play the role of Wednesday's grandmother, and Thandie Newton as Dr. Fairburn. In addition, Frances O'Connor, Haley Joel Osment and Christopher Lloyd will appear among the guests of the series.
Jenna Ortega, who is also the executive producer of the second season, said that the new episodes will have a more intense focus on horror rather than teen romance, which was the dominant theme of the first season. According to Ortega, each episode of the second season will resemble a separate movie, filled with dynamics and dark atmosphere.
Unlike the first season, the second will also feature an expanded cast. The new faces include Billie Piper, Steve Buscemi and other well-known actors who will appear in new roles. At the same time, several actors from the first season, including Percy Hynes White and Jamie McShane, will not return in the new episodes.
