Every winter holiday season, the debate over whether to put up a real or artificial Christmas tree becomes more and more relevant. Meanwhile, you can perfectly decorate your home with indoor plants that will create a Christmas mood and stay with you even after the holidays.

OBOZ.UA tells you which plants will bring a festive atmosphere to your home. Some of them bloom during the winter holidays, and some are symbolically associated with Christmas.

Poinsettia

Another name for this flower is Christmas Euphorbia. It was given this name because it blooms on Christmas Day. In the most common variant, the plant produces a rosette of crimson leaves, combining the two main festive colors – red and green. But there are also, for example, white poinsettias.

Bamboo

In Chinese tradition, bamboo is considered a plant that brings positive energy to the home. If you give two stems, it will be a wish for love, and six stems will be a wish for wealth. One way or another, a composition of live bamboo stems can be easily decorated for the holidays by replacing a Christmas tree. It will look very stylish.

Bonsai made of conifers

Yes, this plant is fun for experienced growers. However, you must admit that having a whole pine or spruce in your home that doesn't require much space and complicated transplantation procedures before the holidays is at least convenient. Throughout the year, a coniferous bonsai tree will symbolize the forest in your home, and you can decorate it stylishly for the holidays. You'll just have to look for miniature ornaments and garlands.

Schlumbergera

This succulent is also called the Christmas cactus. Like the poinsettia, it blooms during the winter holidays. To stimulate flowering, reduce watering and keep the plant cool in September and October, so it can rest and gain strength. Schlumbergera flowers come in many different colors – from deep red to pastel pink and snow-white.

Mistletoe

It is unlikely that you will be able to grow this plant in a pot because, from a biological point of view, it is a parasite that lives on trees. However, in Western tradition, its evergreen branches with white berries are a symbol of Christmas. They are used to decorate doors and windows, and also hang above the entrance to the room – it is believed that if two people meet under mistletoe, they should kiss.
