On August 27, Orthodox believers according to the New Julian calendar honor the memory of St. Pimen. The future saint was born in Egypt around 340. From his youth, he felt drawn to the lonely monastic life and went with his brothers to live in a deserted Skete monastery.

In 407, the barbarians destroyed the monastery, and Pimen and the monks moved to the ruins of the pagan temple of Terenufis. Pimen led a strict and ascetic life. Those who needed help and good advice began to come to him. Pimen's famous collection of Aphorisms includes about 1000 tips for a virtuous life. St. Pimen lived a long life and died at the age of about 110.
