Ukrainian track and field athlete wins second consecutive Paralympic gold medal
Ukrainian track and field athlete Mariia Pomazan has brought our country another gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games, which are currently taking place in Paris. The 35-year-old representative of Zaporizhzhia became the first in the shot put sector among athletes with leg injuries and weak trunk or arm movements.
Our compatriot confirmed the championship she won in Tokyo 2020. Pomazan threw the shot put 12 meters 75 centimeters, which was her best result this season. Mariia left far behind the world record holder in this discipline, Chinese Jan Wang.
"Emotional experiences are hard. Perhaps this medal was the hardest for me because the emotions we experienced in Ukraine and that our people are experiencing are terrible. I am very glad, I want to dedicate this medal to our defenders. If not for them, I would not be here. I would like to dedicate it to the rescuers, volunteers, and doctors who also saved us. This medal is for Ukraine," Pomazan commented on the award for Suspilne Sport.
Mariia won the 14th gold medal for Ukraine, which allowed our team to secure seventh place in the medal standings of the 2024 Paralympics.
