Kichenok and Ostapenko win the semifinals of the Australian Open 2024

Ukrainian tennis player Liudmyla Kichenok has become a finalist in the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open 2024. Our compatriot achieved this right in the women's doubles, where she is playing together with Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.

In the battle for a ticket to the decisive match of the super tournament in Melbourne, the women defeated the fourth seeds Erin Routliffe (New Zealand)/Gabriela Dabrowski (Canada). The match lasted 95 minutes and ended in two games with a score of 7:5, 7:5.

The fight on the court was very stubborn. At the decisive moment, the Latvian-Ukrainian duo pressed their opponents. Kichenok and Ostapenko had two service aces, 15 active winners and six breakpoints out of eight.

The final match will take place on Sunday, January 28. Liudmyla and Jelena will compete for the trophy with the second seeded pair Elise Mertens (Belgium)/Su Wei Hsieh (Taiwan).

It should be noted that 31-year-old Kichenok has already won Grand Slam. Last year, she won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon with Croatian Mate Pavic.
