Ukraine is at the epicenter of temperature anomalies this summer. Map
The heatwave that has gripped Eastern Europe is not only intense (temperatures reaching and exceeding 40-42 °C), but also long-lasting. The maximum temperature over the next seven days is expected to exceed 42-44 °C, which is 10-12 °C higher than the average temperature for 1991-2020.
Over the next 10 days, "hundreds of monthly and absolute temperature records will be broken in Eastern Europe, and in Ukraine in particular". This is the opinion of Climatebook experts who have drawn up a map of temperature anomalies in recent days. On the map, Ukraine is in the black zone - the zone of maximum exceedances of average statistical temperature values.
In particular, the heat in Ukraine in the coming days will exceed the average by 13 °C. Moreover, according to meteorologists, in addition to very high maximum temperatures in the south, "high temperatures are expected to remain at night, especially in large cities, where temperatures will not be lower than 28-30 °C."
In general, scientists say that a prolonged period of heatwave has covered the entire planet. The epicenter of the anomaly in Eastern Europe only records the largest discrepancy between average temperatures. Nevertheless, June 2024 was officially the hottest in the history of observations on the entire planet. It was also the 13th consecutive month with record temperatures.
It is also considered abnormal that the heat is a "continuous front". The last time such a "streak of monthly global temperature records" was recorded was in 2015.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, according to Ukrainian weather forecasters, the heat in Ukraine will increase in the coming days. It is expected to peak on July 14-17.
By the end of the second decade of the month, there will be no noticeable decrease in air temperature, and the weather will start to change only on July 20.
