Svitolina and Kostiuk reached the top 20 in the world rankings

For the first time in the history of women's tennis, two Ukrainian women have reached the top 20 in the world rankings. The achievement was made by Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostiuk, who this year have been performing well in major tournaments, reaching the decisive stages.

This is reported by the portal "Big Tennis of Ukraine". In the updated rankings of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), Svitolina is ranked 19th with 2400 points. Kostyuk took 20th place with an asset of 2235 points.

Two more of our compatriots entered the top 35 – Angelina Kalinina moved up to 31st position, and Diana Yastremska to 33rd. Polish tennis player Iga Swietek is the leader in the ranking. She scored 10,910 points.

This week, Svitolina, Kostiuk, Kalinina, Jastremska, and Lesia Tsurenko will play at the WTA 1000 series tournament in Rome with a prize pool of $5.5 million. Interestingly, fans may witness a Ukrainian derby in the second round: if Tsurenko wins against Croatian Dona Vekic, she will play Kalinina.
