The end of October brings a special atmosphere, and not only warm sweaters, tea and cozy blankets, but also spooky Halloween decor. The best way to feel the mood of the season is to watch themed movies. However, if you're not a fan of the horror genre, you don't have to torture yourself with chilling horror movies.

OBOZ.UA has compiled a rating of interesting movies that are best suited for the fall. This top 10 is also suitable for those who are tired of horror.

Men in Black

Let's start with the classics. The 1997 sci-fi comedy directed by Barry Sonnenfeld has become a cult film in the genre. It starred Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Vincent D'Onofrio, Linda Fiorentino, and Rip Torn. Few people know that "Men in Black" is actually an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name.

One and a half thousand aliens secretly live on Earth. In this regard, a secret bureau for cooperation with aliens, the Men in Black, was created. Contacts between people and UFOs are strictly regulated – even a special memory neutralizer has been created to help keep the fact of the presence of aliens secret for the majority of the Earth's population. One day, the agents come across a case of a representative of the "beetle" invading race: an alien eats a farmer and puts on his skin. The Men in Black have to prevent an intergalactic war. If you haven't seen "Men in Black" yet, Halloween is the perfect time to catch up.

Coco

For family viewing, you can choose the cartoon "Coco." It is currently on IMDb's list of the 250 best films.

The plot tells the story of 12-year-old Miguel, who lives in a Mexican village in a family of shoemakers and secretly dreams of becoming a musician. But music is considered a curse in his family. The boy travels to the Land of the Dead, where he meets the souls of his ancestors. Miguel wants to reunite the living and dead members of his family.

Corpse Bride

The cult animated film by Tim Burton, which was even nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

The story takes place in the nineteenth century. The forces of darkness drag Victor to hell and marry him to the mysterious Corpse Bride, while his beloved Victoria waits in the world of the living. Living in the Kingdom of the Dead turns out to be much more interesting than the usual way of life. Victor will have to decide whether he wants to return to his world.

Donnie Darko

This 2001 cult science fiction film follows 28 days in the life of high school student Donnie Darko. A cocky and arrogant young man suddenly begins to see a creepy person in a rabbit costume. The conversations lead Donnie to serious reflections on the contradiction between fate and freedom, as well as the end of the world. The events in the movie take place on the eve of Halloween.

The Others

"The Others" is a mystical thriller starring Nicole Kidman. The film has won eight Goya Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. It is a scary movie, but not in a bloody or violent way. The story takes place in 1945. A mother and her two children live in an old house on an island, waiting for the war to end and for their husband to return from the front. The children have a rare disease – they are afraid of daylight. When new servants arrive, strange things start happening in the house. The movie is well suited for those who are ready to endure some tense moments.

Jennifer's Body

Another cult thriller based on the screenplay by Diablo Cody. Nidhi Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried) is a gray mouse at school. However, her best friend Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) is a local star. The friends are going to go to a rock band concert at a bar. Suddenly, a fire breaks out there, but Jennifer and Nidhi manage to escape. In the course of the plot, it turns out that Jennifer has turned into a cannibalistic demon who now hunts down her classmates, devouring them to maintain her vitality.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

It's not too far from Halloween to Christmas, so the spooky Christmas atmosphere will give you a vivid impression. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is a musical animated film by Henry Selick, created using puppetry in the dark fantasy genre. The perfect buffer for the end-of-year holidays, this animated film perfectly combines the spooky and the festive as it tells the story of the unexpected journey of the Halloween Pumpkin King to Christmas Town.

Zombieland

The world is ruled by zombies, but there are a few "normal" people left on the planet. The protagonist Columbus, trying to escape from the monsters, meets his fellow misfortune on his way.

Practical Magic

The American fantasy melodrama film tells the story of sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who come from a long line of witches. The girls have gradually learned to use practical magic, but the women of the Owens family suffer from a family curse, which the sisters will try to get rid of.

Edward Scissorhands

The movie was directed by Tim Burton in 1990. The movie stars the young and beautiful Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. This is a tragicomic fairy tale that tells the story of an unusual young man, Edward, who had scissors instead of hands, and a sensual love story.
