"It has to be used": WBC prepares a revolutionary decision on Usyk-Fury fight

Suleiman speaks about Usyk-Fury fight

Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has announced the use of a video replay system during the fight between Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). The official expressed confidence that this would help avoid many controversial situations.

Suleiman said this in an interview with journalists, as quoted by the Daily Mail. The head of the WBC, the belt of which Fury holds, noted that his organization has experience in using video technologies and will insist on their use during the fight between the British and Ukrainian for the title of absolute world champion.

"We started using instant replays 12 years ago. For example, in the fight between Fury and Ngannou when Tyson got a cut. The referee didn't see the reason for the blow, but on the big screen we saw that it was a headbutt, so we immediately recognized it as such. We have to have instant replays, especially in fights like this, because the last thing you want is controversy that kills the sport. We have to use the technology available and get the most out of it," Suleiman said.

The fight between Oleksande and Tyson was originally scheduled for February 17, but the Gypsy King suffered a cut during sparring two weeks before the show. The Manchester native apologized for his injury.
