Sports cars are designed for efficient driving. This segment is typically expected to have high handling, quick braking and maneuvering ability, as well as low weight and high power. Such indicators as fuel economy, comfort, space, or passenger space are relegated to the background.

Experts say that sports cars don't need a big, powerful engine, but many top models do. Exceptional handling is achieved thanks to its light weight, well-designed balanced chassis, and modern suspension. On his YouTube channel, car enthusiast Doug DeMuro told us which sports cars are worthy of attention.

Aston Martin DB9

Aston Martin produces premium cars. The DB9 favors luxury, and you will most likely get it with an automatic transmission. Despite this, it still comes with a powerful V12 engine that keeps up with the competition. You can find early models (mid-to-late 2000s) of the DB9 in good condition on the market for around $40,000.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

The V8 Vantage is not about style, but about power. DeMuro noted that with proper maintenance, the DB9 and V8 Vantage offer better reliability than their reputation. This opens the door to a lower resale price. However, don't expect perfect reliability. You are buying an exotic car of an older model, so plan for maintenance costs every year.

Audi RS5

The Audi RS5 offers great performance for a relatively modest price. DeMuro noted that you can buy a model for $25,000, depending on the condition. The car has a 450-horsepower V8 engine with all the elegance you would expect from a German luxury car manufacturer. Audi produced the original RS5 line for only three years in the United States, from 2013 to 2015. These cars may not require extensive maintenance every year.

Audi TT RS

The Audi TT has a reputation for being a smooth car with soft curves, but the RS trim provides plenty of durability. Its five-cylinder turbocharged engine with 360 horsepower gives you the power you want from a true sports car.

BMW E82 1-Series

Living up to BMW's reputation, the 1-Series offers excellent handling and performance. In the budget segment, you can find a high-mileage automatic transmission car for as little as $10,000. BMW produced these models from the late 2000s until about 2015. Keep in mind that these cars, and BMWs in general, often have maintenance issues.

Chevrolet C5 Corvette Z06

Thanks to its V8 engine with over 400 horsepower, the C5 Corvette Z06 lives up to its reputation as a quality and fast car. It provides excellent cornering and handling in line with the powerful engine. Chevy's are also surprisingly reliable, at least as used sports cars go. You can buy one for around $30,000.

Dodge Viper RT10

With its distinctive appearance and powerful engine, the Viper RT30 is a real throwback to the 90s. The car has a V10 engine with 450 horsepower. This is not the most practical car, but it is a pleasure to drive.

ND Mazda Miata

This small and light model is extremely nice and fast. Don't expect a powerful engine, but driving the Mazda Miata is still a pleasure. You can find an ND Miata in good condition with a manual for around $20,000. Later models have a little more horsepower and offer a nice folding hardtop, but they cost significantly more.

Nissan 350Z

First released in 2003, the 350Z produces about 300 horsepower from a V6 engine. It never became an expensive collector car, despite its sporty looks, powerful performance, and great reliability. DeMuro says you can find a 350Z with a manual for a modest $10,000.

996 Porsche 911

These models were produced from 1999 to 2005. They never became a collector's favorite like the previous 993 models, so you can buy them relatively cheaply today. For about $15,000 you can find an automatic transmission, and for $20,000 you can buy a model with a manual transmission. Just keep in mind that these are definitely not the most reliable cars.
