Apple tries to keep users of its equipment in good shape and constantly offers them something fundamentally new. Thus, according to rumors, a completely new series of iPhone smartphones may be released by the end of this year.

According to MacRumors, Apple is planning to release an ultra-thin iPhone 17 model, and a new report provides some eye-opening details. According to the South Korean magazine Sisa Journal, to which the publication refers, the tech giant wants the so-called iPhone 17 Air to be 6.25 mm thick. If these measurements are accurate, the device will be the thinnest iPhone ever created. It will break the record of 6.9 mm currently held by the iPhone 6. This also means that the device will be about 20% thinner than the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and about 25% thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

So far, most leaks suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will be somewhere in the 6mm range, but one source says as little as 5mm.

The new report says that the price of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 will be similar to the price of the iPhone 16 Plus, which starts at $899 in the US. Apple is not expected to release the iPhone 17 Plus, and the iPhone 17 Air will actually be its replacement.

It is noteworthy that Samsung is planning to introduce a much thinner smartphone this year. Its preliminary name is Galaxy S25 Slim. It will probably have a thickness in the mid-6 mm range.

There were conflicting rumors about the design details and specifications of the iPhone 17 Air, but most sources agreed that the device will have a display of about 6.6 inches. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that he expects the device to feature a standard A19 chip, Dynamic Island, a single rear camera, and an Apple-designed 5G modem. The device is expected to be equipped with 8 GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence.

Overall, the new smartphone will make some compromises compared to the Pro models to achieve a much thinner and lighter design. Apple should release all iPhone 17 models in September, and more rumors about the iPhone 17 Air are likely to emerge during this period.
