The world champion told what will happen in the Usyk-Fury fight
World Boxing Champion 2021 Yuriy Zakhareev (61-4, 5 KOs) made his forecast for the fight between WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles holder Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) and WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs). The fight will take place on May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The 21-year-old native of Odesa region is betting on Usyk's victory. Zakhareev suggested that in the fight, Oleksandr will keep his distance, not engaging in close exchanges and clinches with Tyson.
"I think it will be very difficult for Usyk in close range, because Fury falls on them in fights with all his opponents, hangs on them all the time, does not let them work. I think Usyk will work at a distance all the time, which is called "on his feet". He'll try to get him off balance with deceptive maneuvers and beat him. Just beat him for all the bad words he wrote down. I think he will get what he deserves for all this," Zakhareev said in an interview with the TIKE MYSON YouTube channel.
Yuriy refused to predict whether the fight would end in a judge's decision or a knockout.
"Honestly, it's a very difficult prediction for this fight. I don't even know what to say. But Usyk will definitely win," Zakhareev summarized.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, the fight was originally scheduled for February 17, but Fury suffered a serious cut during training on February 2. Because of this, the fight was officially postponed to the spring of 2024.
Turki Al Al-Sheikh, head of Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Entertainment, said the May 18 show will go ahead anyway. The organizer of the boxing night in Riyadh has come up with a rule that will prevent the fight from being disrupted again.
In addition, Turki Al al-Sheikh noted that Usyk or Tyson will face a $10 million fine if either of them refuses to perform.
