The winner of the World Ice Hockey Championship was determined in a tense final. Video
The Czech national team defeated Switzerland to win the World Ice Hockey Championship for the seventh time in its history. The match in Prague at the O2 Arena ended with a score of 0:2.
The match was more like a chess game, with the decisive goal scored only at the end of the third period. David Pastrňák scored the game-winner.
The Swiss tried to snatch the victory in the last seconds, replaced the goalkeeper with a 6th field player, but as a result, they missed the empty net with 19 seconds left.
In the bronze medal match, Canada sensationally lost to Sweden (2:4), losing for the fifth consecutive match for third place at the World Cup. In 2018, the Maple Leafs lost to the United States (1:4), in 2006 to Finland (0:5), in 2000 to Finland (1:2), and in 1999 to Sweden (2:3).
The last time Canadians took bronze was in 1995. Then they won against the Czech Republic (4:1).
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the 2024 World Ice Hockey Championship, which took place in the Czech cities of Prague and Ostrava from May 10 to 26, became the most visited in history. The record was set ahead of schedule.
