The cheapest option in Europe: the city with the most affordable Christmas fair has been named
Once you're at a Christmas market, it's easy to get carried away and spend too much money on treats and entertainment, especially if you are traveling abroad during the holiday season.
That's why the British Post Office Travel Money service has compiled a rating of European cities where Christmas markets will allow you to have fun on a budget. It was published by the Express. This time, researchers evaluated 14 European cities to find the best value for money. They compared the cost of a two-day trip, as well as food and drink prices.
Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, became the most profitable destination. The experts added up the cost of two nights in a 3-4-star hotel for two guests, as well as transportation and the cost of two dinners with wine, coffee, festive drinks and snacks at the Christmas market. And it turned out that this is the most profitable place to spend a vacation.
The second place on the list went to Vilnius, Lithuania. The city turned out to be the cheapest in terms of food, drinks and airport transfers. This year, Latvian Riga fell to third place in the ranking.
The authors of the study generally noted that Eastern European cities offer the best value for money for those looking for bargains. As many as nine of the top ten cities are located in this region.
Two Polish cities were included in the list of the best for those looking for a budget Christmas vacation. These are Gdansk and Krakow. Also in the ranking are the Czech capital of Prague, where restaurant prices were the most favorable, and Hungarian Budapest. The list is completed by Danish Copenhagen.
