The Biathlon World Cup race was marked by an incredible denouement in the last meters. A video has been released
French biathlete Lou Jeanmonneau has won a dramatic victory in the pursuit race at the 8th stage of the World Cup in the United States. The two-time world champion beat her closest rival, Italian Lisa Vittozzi, by 4 tenths of a second.
After the final fourth shooting, Gianmonno and Vittozzi entered the last lap at a distance of one meter from each other. Vittozzi set the pace for most of the lap until the French star overtook her Italian rival in the final 100 meters to claim her third career victory and second win of the season.
Jeanmonneau called her victory "really cool"
"I had planned to stay behind Lisa until the last 50 meters, but she decided to work the entire distance as hard as possible, hoping that I would not be able to keep up with her pace. We had a little contact just before the finish line, so I would like to spend the final 100 meters on the track better. But in general, I'm happy with the victory. It was interesting, intense, but very tiring," the 25-year-old Frenchwoman commented on her success.
Julie Simon, the overall leader in this discipline, finished third with two misses and 1:01 behind. Simon remains in first place in the fight for the Small Crystal Globe, 26 points ahead of Vittozzi.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Ukraine was initially represented in this race by Yulia Dzhima and Khrystyna Dmytrenko, but only Dzhima took the start. Dmytrenko's DNS (Do not start) icon remained in the final protocol. It should be noted that Yulia Dzhyma finished 22nd.
We would like to remind you that Eric Perrault sensationally won the sprint race at the stage in the United States. It was the 22-year-old Frenchman's first career gold medal in individual racing.
Ukraine, which was represented by five athletes in this discipline, could not boast of high results. The best among our biathletes was Artem Pryma, who finished 39th.
The day before, the U.S. biathlon team took the highest place in the history of World Cups in the relay. The American team of Vincent Bonacci, Sean Doherty, Campbell Wright and Jake Brown sensationally finished fourth at the 8th stage of the World Cup in Soldier Hollow (Salt Lake City, USA).
