Suitable for the garden and indoor flowers: how to make a miracle fertilizer from oatmeal
Oatmeal is useful not only for a healthy diet. It is an excellent fertilizer for garden crops and indoor plants. Even if you have expired oatmeal at home, don't rush to throw it away.
OBOZ.UA tells you how to prepare a mixture that will restore even very weak plants in a few weeks. Fertilizing with oatmeal is a safe, versatile, environmentally friendly, economical, effective, and easy way to improve plant health and yield in the garden.
Why oatmeal is good for plants
Of course, oatmeal is not a fertilizer in the literal sense. The main benefit is that after adding the flakes to the soil, a large number of earthworms appear in the garden. This contributes to deep processing of the soil, improving air circulation and soil moisture.
The root system gets access to air, and gas exchange in the soil improves. The garden bed is enriched with earthworm waste products.
Oatmeal also increases the resistance of plants to bad weather and has a good effect on the development of the root system. Oatmeal flakes saturate the soil with calcium, potassium, zinc, and phosphorus. Regularly applying this fertilizer can protect plants from fungal diseases.
How to prepare oatmeal fertilizer for garden crops
- Grind the instant oatmeal into fine crumbs – you can use a blender, mortar, or other available tools.
- Sprinkle the crushed flakes on the garden bed. A handful of fertilizer is enough for 1 square meter.
- Work the soil with a rake to deepen the fertilization a little.
There is another option, which is to prepare a tincture for watering. To do this, mix 500 g of crushed oatmeal with 10 liters of warm water and leave the solution for five days. The infusion should be applied under the root at the rate of 0.5 liters per plant. It is better to repeat the procedure after 2 weeks.
How to feed indoor plants with oatmeal
Oatmeal fertilization will be useful if plants have started to wilt or turn yellow. Oatmeal flakes for flowers are a source of nutrients, including phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and other trace elements that are essential for growth.
To prepare the fertilizer, take ½ cup of flakes and cover them with 1 liter of water. Wait for the oatmeal to infuse, drain the water, and use the solution diluted (1:4 with clean water) to water the flowers.
You can also grind the flakes and sprinkle them on the substrate in flowerpots, mixing gently.
