Ski resorts in Europe: when do they open, what are the prices and conditions

The frosty months are just around the corner, so you can safely plan a winter trip. Moreover, some attractions are waiting for tourists in late fall. So which destination to choose – read below.

Sölden, Austria

Located in the Tyrol state at an altitude of 1368 meters above sea level. The ski season lasts from October to May. The territory of the complex is equipped with artificial snow systems.

Both beginners and professionals come here. There are trails of varying difficulty and height. In particular, three peaks are three thousand meters high: Gaislachkogl (3058), Tiefenbachkogl (3250), and Schwarze Schneide (3340).

Modern ski lifts, snow parks, observation decks, and trails with a total length of over 144 kilometers have been set up for travelers. You can also rent sports equipment here.

Tourists can also warm up in the open-air thermal pools. Entertainment also includes: sleigh rides, an ice rink, excursions, bowling, etc.

Val Thorens, France

Located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level, it is part of the Three Valleys ski area, one of the world's largest ski areas. The season opens at the end of November.

There are 78 pistes with a total length of 600 kilometers. There are also more than 180 chair lifts, areas for people with disabilities, playgrounds, and sports equipment rental.

The resort has implemented the ski-in/ski-out concept. This means that hotels and apartments are located directly next to the ski slopes. Tourists will be able to literally walk out of their apartment door, put on their equipment, and go to conquer the mountains. To preserve nature, the village has limited car traffic. Most of the transportation is done on foot.

Saas-Fee, Switzerland

It is located in the Valais canton at the altitude of 1800 meters above sea level. It has the largest high-altitude Metro of the Alps and a restaurant that rotates around its axis. The season starts in October.

The center is surrounded by 13 mountains. The total length of the slopes stretches for more than 100 kilometers. There are also 27 ski lifts, a snow park, and ski schools. Here, tourists can go snowboarding and curling, snowmobiling, and sledding.

We also recommend exploring the grotto of ice sculptures and visiting the local museum of local lore. The building houses antique sports equipment and household items.

Youth (16-19 ) – €72 and €297.

Tignes, France

It is located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It used to be a training base for the Paralympic team.

The center consists of three parts connected by a network of chair lifts. Together with the neighboring resort of Val d'Isère, it is part of the vast Espace-Killy ski area. Thanks to the Grande-Motte and Pissaillas glaciers, you can ski here from early fall to late spring.

There are about 154 trails and 90 lifts for travelers. And, of course, you can rent sports equipment here.

Children (8-18 ) – €55 and €354.

Cervinia, Italy

Located in the Aosta Valley at the foot of the four-thousand meter Matterhorn. The maximum height of the ski area is 3489 meters above sea level. The season starts in late October. On the occasion of its opening, a colorful torchlight procession is held here. Ski instructors, mountain guides, and athletes take part in it. The celebration is accompanied by delicious treats and ends with an amazing pyrotechnic show.

There are trails of varying difficulty. Their total length reaches 150 kilometers. Here, tourists can go skiing, sledding, and ice skating. They can also take a walk along the hiking trails.
