Scientists have found a new species of humans with huge heads called Homo juluensis. These ancestors of ours include mysterious groups, such as the Denisovans, ancient human relatives whose history is still shrouded in mystery.

Homo juluensis lived in small groups in China about 300,000 years ago. They hunted wild horses, made stone tools, and possibly processed animal skins before disappearing about 200,000 years ago, IflScience writes.

Professor Christopher J. Bae of the University of Hawaii has been studying the ancestors of people across Asia for more than 30 years. His recent study helps to explain the confusion about the different types of ancient humanoid species that coexisted in the region during the late middle and early late Pleistocene - about 300,000-50,000 years ago, Phys.org writes.

According to the researchers, Homo juluensis had a large head shape that was significantly larger than that of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens, The Jerusalem Post emphasizes.

Scientists speculate that the new species included the mysterious Denisovans, a population known from a few remains found in Siberia and fossils excavated in Tibet and Laos. According to the scientists, more research will be conducted to verify this connection, which is based on similarities between jaws and teeth.

With the new discovery, Christopher J. Bae and his research team have created a clearer system for sorting and understanding these ancient human fossils from China, Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia.

"This study explains the hominid fossils, which generally included anything that could not be easily attributed to Homo erectus, Homo neanderthalensis, or Homo sapiens. Although we started this project a few years ago, we did not expect to be able to propose a new species of human ancestor," said Professor Bae.

According to the scientists, this work is important because it helps scientists understand the complex history of human evolution in Asia, filling in some of the gaps in understanding our ancient relatives.
