Russia's sixth-ranked Oleksandr Shevchenko (ATP No. 48) has changed his sporting citizenship. According to the 23-year-old native of Rostov-on-Don, he will play for Kazakhstan starting next week.
"I'm very proud of this and look forward to getting on the court and trying to give unforgettable moments to myself and the country," Shevchenko wrote on his Instagram.
Shevchenko has been living with his mother in Austria since he was nine years old. He also has a residence permit in Slovakia.
In singles, Shevchenko has won a total of three Challenger titles (in 2022-2023) and 4 Futures titles as of October 2023.
In mid-January 2024, at the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament, Shevchenko lost in the first round of singles to experienced Spaniard Jaume Munar.
