Russian national team deprived of 2024 Olympics by not being allowed to compete in the Czech Republic in the slalom qualifying tournament
The Russian national rowing team was not allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic slalom qualifying tournament, which will take place from June 7 to 9 in Prague (Czech Republic). According to the team's head coach, Maxim Obraztsov, the International Canoe Federation conducted a survey before the tournament of the countries that will host international races in 2024 to determine whether Russian athletes could participate.
"I don't know what the Czechs answered, but we are not allowed to participate in the qualifying tournament in Prague, so Russians have no chance to qualify for the Olympics," Obraztsov told TASS.
The Russian national team has been granted admission to participate in the World Championships and two stages of the World Cup this year. The team is currently discussing the possibility of Russian athletes participating in these competitions and is in dialogue with the International Rowing Federation on the conditions of admission.
"So far, there is no final decision on this issue, and no member of the Russian national rowing slalom team has applied for neutral status," Obraztsov concluded.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, on April 2, it became known that Russian rowers refused to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris and will not compete in the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Games. At the same time, the IOC allowed the Russians who had qualified to participate in the Paris Olympics in a neutral status under strict conditions.
