Poland decides to confiscate Gazprom's share of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline

On Tuesday, October 10, Poland announced its decision to take a share of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline from Russia's Gazprom back. The decision is a step towards restoring full control of Polish companies over the country's strategic gas infrastructure.

This was reported by the head of the Orlen Polish oil concern Daniel Obajtek. It is noted that after the decision becomes final, Europol GAZ JSC will become the owner of the shares previously owned by Gazprom.

The decision is currently up to the Polish Ministry of Development and Technology. According to Obajtek, the Orlen group will take control of a part of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.

"Poland has been dependent on natural gas supplies from Russia for decades. It accounted for about 80% of its imports of this raw material 10 years ago," he said.

He also added that they have been completely independent of gas from Russia since 2022. Today's decision is a step towards restoring full control of Polish companies over the country's strategic gas infrastructure.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, in 2022, gas supplies from Germany to Poland via the Yamal-Europe pipeline (in reverse mode) dropped to zero. At the same time, pumping from Russia through Ukraine's gas transportation system towards the EU increased slightly.
