Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion in high jump, has transferred UAH 1,000,000 to Ukrainian animal rights activists, the animal and environmental rescue organization UAnimals reports on Instagram. In addition to UAnimals, four other animal shelters received the money.

"We are extremely grateful to Yaroslava for her good deed. Thanks to her, thousands of animals will receive medicine, food, and their own warm place to sleep," said Lyudmyla Smolyar, head of UAnimals' communications department.

Smolyar admitted that she dreams of the moment when helping animals will become a common and everyday thing in Ukrainian society.

"It is powerful voices like Yaroslava Mahuchikh's that bring this moment closer," Smolyar added.

Commenting on the donation, Mahuchikh admitted that she has a purebred cat that she adopted from a shelter.

"But he is the best in the world and my favorite jumper. So, if you have the opportunity to save an animal, do it!" she addressed her fans.

As a reminder, Ukraine will pay $120,000 to all Olympic champions of the Games in the French capital. Yaroslava will receive another $50,000 from the World Athletics.

On August 8, Maguchikh admitted in an interview with Reuters that she supports and will support the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the war against Russia and will give part of her earnings to volunteers to help the Ukrainian military at the front.

On August 4, Mahuchikh won a gold medal in the high jump at the 2024 Olympic Games. The Ukrainian athlete took first place with a result of 2.00 meters.
