Nissan and Honda sign a memorandum of understanding

On Monday, December 23, Japanese automobile corporations Nissan and Honda announced a merger. From now on, the companies will be a single holding. This may happen as early as 2026.

This is reported in a joint statement. In addition, Mitsubishi may join them later. The corporation is currently studying the possibility.

It is noted that Nissan and Honda plan to create a holding company through a joint transfer of shares, which will become the parent company for both companies.

"Both Nissan and Honda will become wholly owned subsidiaries of the joint holding company. Additionally, the companies plan to continue coexisting and developing the brands held by Honda and Nissan equally," the document says.

The holding company's shares will be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It is also known that the conclusion of the final agreement is scheduled for June 2025, with the transfer of shares coming into force in August 2026.

In addition, Honda and Nissan are discussing joint production of cars at each other's plants. Honda is also considering supplying hybrid cars to Nissan.
