"Mickey 17": a trailer for a sci-fi movie where Robert Pattinson is killed over and over again, from the author of the Oscar-winning Parasites
A trailer for the upcoming science fiction film Mickey 17, directed by South Korean Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho, has been shown online. The film, starring English actor Robert Pattinson, is based on the novel of the same name by Edward Ashton.
Work on the project began in 2022, and viewers will be able to see the film on world screens in January 2025. The trailer was published on the YouTube channel of Warner Bros, the company that produces the thriller. In 5 hours after its publication, the video gained more than 2 million views.
The protagonist of the film, Mickey Barnes, is a "recovering employee" of a space expedition that aims to colonize the icy planet Niflheim. The man, played by Robert Pattinson, is sent on the most dangerous expeditions, which result in his death every time. After Barnes' death, his physical body is destroyed, and his mind is rebooted into a new one, retaining all his memories.
After multiple reincarnations, the hero begins to ask himself questions: "Does he remain the same person he was at first? Or does he die and get reborn as a slightly different person each time?" Mickey Barnes finds the answer to his thoughts when, after one of his missions, he loses contact with the base and realizes that he has been replaced by an identical replacement.
Director Bong Joon-ho, 55, said that he invited Robert Pattinson to become the lead actor of his new film because he liked the "crazy in his eyes." In addition to the British actor, the star team also included: Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie.
