"Losses of DniproHES capacities are significant," says CEO of Ukrhydroenergo

Even the temporary loss of DniproHES's capacity is significant for the Ukrainian energy system. The extent of the damage is currently difficult to assess.

Ihor Syrota, CEO of Ukrhydroenergo, told the Associated Press. The CEO noted that Ukraine's largest hydroelectric power plant had stopped working after missile strikes, and the station lost part of its generating capacity, which led to significant losses for the United Energy System of Ukraine.

Ihor Syrota also emphasized that the extent of the damage is difficult to assess at this time, but the reconstruction will be lengthy. "This attack was especially dangerous because the enemy combined various means of attack, kamikaze drones, ballistic and cruise missiles," Kudrytskyi, the chairman of the board of NPC Ukrenergo, told the Associated Press.

He explained that the Russians "tried to destroy every significant energy facility that feeds the city of Kharkiv," leaving at least 700,000 people without electricity. Several hundred thousand consumers were also left without power in other regions.

The missile strike on March 22 was the largest attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the beginning of the full-scale phase of the war.

As OBOZ.UA previously wrote, it will take three days to fully assess the consequences of the Russian strike on the DniproHES in Zaporizhzhia, although it was previously predicted that it would take a day. At the moment, it has been established that part of the ceiling and walls of the power plant's engine room have collapsed. However, there is no risk of a dam breach, and the plant will resume operations.
