The flow of people and vehicles leaving Ukraine has increased at the Ukrainian-Polish border. The accumulation of vehicles is observed in front of several checkpoints, and about 25 thousand people are trying to leave the country every day.

This was reported by the State Border Guard Service. The reasons for the situation are not specified.

"The flow of people and vehicles on the Ukrainian-Polish border to leave Ukraine has increased. In recent days, the number of people and vehicles crossing the Ukrainian-Polish border daily is about 25 thousand people and more than 5 thousand vehicles," the statement said.

It is emphasized that the largest accumulation of vehicles is observed in front of several checkpoints. In particular:

  • Shehyni;
  • Ustyluh;
  • Krakivets;
  • Rava-Ruska.

"The lowest passenger traffic is observed at Smilnytsia, Hrushev, and Uhryniv. To reduce the waiting time in queues, we recommend that citizens choose these checkpoints to cross the border," the border guards said.

De-blockade of the border with Poland has already affected the economy

After the unblocking of the Polish-Ukrainian border, the cargo flow of agricultural products from Ukraine increased by 20%. This has led to a UAH 2.5 billion replenishment of the state budget.

On April 29, Polish farmers unblocked all checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. They also resumed truck traffic, although restrictions are in place for vehicles carrying grain.

"While in the second decade of April 2024, the average volume of transportation was 13 thousand tons per day, on April 28-29, this figure increased to 16 thousand tons," said Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy.

For his part, MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak ("Voice") noted that "only one week without the blockade of the border with Poland brought in UAH 2.5 billion." At the same time, the European Business Association estimates that companies' losses due to the border blockade amounted to at least EUR 24.8 million.
