The image of The Last Supper by the famous Italian artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous paintings in the world. However, this Renaissance genius hid 6 secret symbols in his iconic fresco.

A historical critic and blogger who calls himself Culture Critic named the hidden symbols in the 1495 AD masterpiece. According to the expert, Leonardo da Vinci did not just depict the last meal of the Son of God, but included symbols that tell about the arrest and resurrection of Jesus, DailyMail reports.

The Bible details the story of the Last Supper in 33 AD, when Jesus sat with his 12 apostles and told them that one of them would betray him. Christ also emphasized that his death was inevitable.

Although the hidden symbolism in Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" has not been confirmed by scholars, blogger Culture Critic describes in detail the six secrets he has discerned. "It's the complexity and symbolism woven into the image that has kept people speculating ever since da Vinci created the painting. And as always, nothing is accidental in Leonardo's work," the expert emphasized.

In particular, Judas is depicted in the shadows in the painting, because he has already betrayed Jesus, and now he is clutching the "bloody" pieces of silver in his hand. In his post on the social network X, Culture Critic draws attention to the fact that near Judas' hand is something that looks like a salt container that he knocked over. This, they say, symbolizes a broken covenant with God.

The blogger goes on to point out that Christ in da Vinci's painting is depicted in a triangular shape, symbolizing the Holy Trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Da Vinci painted St. Peter with a knife. According to Culture Critic, the knife indicates Peter's attempt to save Jesus by cutting off Malchus' ear. Recall that Malchus was a servant of the Jewish high priest Caiaphas. He was among the 450 men who were ordered to arrest Jesus.

The researcher also says that St. Thomas at the Last Supper stands to the left of Jesus with a "curiously raised finger" in the air. This, he says, may symbolize the apostle who later demands proof that Jesus rose from the dead.

There is a mysterious figure to the left of Jesus in a painting by Leonardo da Vinci. Some scholars assume that this is Mary Magdalene, who traveled with the Son of God and was one of his devoted followers. However, most experts are convinced that it is actually one of the youngest male apostles, John, whose pale skin and feminine features led people to believe that he was a mysterious stranger.
