The decision was made during a meeting of the city council

The Kyiv City Council has decided to rename Povitroflotskyi Avenue. From now on, it will be named in honor of the Air Force of Ukraine.

This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on his Telegram channel. This name was previously supported by Kyiv residents and the Ukrainian military.

"From today, Kyiv has an avenue of the Air Force of Ukraine! Glory to our defenders! Glory to Ukraine!" Klitschko wrote.

It is worth adding that the commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, reacted to the decision of the Kyiv City Council.

"Google maps say that you can enjoy a walk along Air Force Avenue for more than an hour. I am grateful to all Kyiv residents, the deputy corps, and personally to Vitali Klitschko for their trust and respect for our defenders of the sky!" Oleshchuk wrote.

Earlier, the mayor of the capital said that the Kyiv City Council should approve several renaming of city objects on Thursday, February 8, during a meeting as part of de-Russification. In particular, this applies to Povitroflotskyi Avenue.

As a reminder, Chelyuskintsiv Street in Darnytsia district was renamed in honor of Ukrainian soldiers who defended and later liberated Zmiinyi Island in the Black Sea from Russian occupiers. The decision was supported by 10,630 citizens in an electronic vote.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Pushkin Park in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district was renamed in honor of Ukrainian writer Ivan Bahrianyi. The corresponding decision was supported by 13,699 citizens during the electronic voting.
