Jared Leto, Gwyneth Paltrow and other actors who forgot about their roles in famous movies
Sometimes actors are so deeply immersed in their character's universe that after filming is over, they take a long break before the next movie. This is necessary for a moral reboot... For example, the English actor Daniel Day-Lewis did not appear on screen for 7 years after playing in Phantom Thread (2017)! He explained his decision as follows: "It surprised us: we didn't realize what we had created. We chose fashion, and then we thought, what the hell have we let ourselves in for? The fashion world got me... It was hard to live with." Obviously, such insightful roles cannot be forgotten. And sometimes it happens the other way around - when you have to act in several large projects at the same time or play episodic characters. That's when some of your work can get lost in your memory.
In an article by OBOZ.UA, we have prepared a selection of stars who have forgotten that they starred in cult films. Perhaps some of them were lying when they talked about it in interviews. But we will never know the truth.
1. Gwyneth Paltrow
In 2019, the American actress and singer Gwyneth Paltrow was embarrassed on the cooking show The Chef Show. Then her colleague Jon Favreau said that she had starred in the movie Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017). The star replied in confusion: "I was in Spider-Man? No. I was in The Avengers (the movie in which Paltrow played Virginia "Pepper" Potts - Ed.)". Shortly afterward, the actress commented on the embarrassment on Jimmy Kimmel Live: "I'm just confused. There are so many great, interconnected Marvel movies... To be honest, I've never seen this movie."
2. Anna Kendrick
In 2007, American actress and film director Anna Kendrick played the friend of the main character Bella Swan, Jessica Stanley, in the Twilight franchise. But after starring in a number of successful films (such as The Perfect Voice (2012), The Auditor (2015), and My Boyfriend Is a Hitman (2017)), she forgot about it. "Oh, shit. I just remembered that I was in Twilight," she wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) page. It may sound like a joke, but her role was indeed inconspicuous against the backdrop of vampire intrigue.
3. Jared Leto
At the beginning of his career, American actor and musician Jared Leto starred in the film Urban Legends (1998). He played the lead role of Paul Gardner, a journalist for a student newspaper... And while the other characters in this article at least recognize the existence of films in which they do not remember acting, this one does not. In 2002, in an interview with IGN, he said in surprise: "What is this? I was a reporter? What are you talking about? I've never even heard of this movie. Does it exist? I must have had a blackout."
4. Chris O'Dowd
In 2013, Irish actor and comedian Chris O'Dowd made a cameo appearance in the movie Thor 2: The Realm of Darkness. It was about a character named Richard, who was on a date with Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman). Since the filming didn't last long, the memories of it wandered a bit in the jungle of O'Dowd's memory. So, during an interview with MTV News, he said: "God, I forgot I was in this (movie - Ed.)... Until you just mentioned it... I thought, why is he (the journalist - Ed.) talking to me about Marvel movies?"
5. Jack Black
In 2006, American actor, comedian and musician Jack Black starred in the cult comedy "Holiday Inn," which is watched by millions of viewers around the world every year during the winter holidays. He played one of the main roles. Do you remember Miles Dumont? When the movie star was asked about his favorite Christmas movie on the red carpet in 2019, he immediately replied that it was Elf (2003). Then the interviewer asked if Black could name a Christmas movie with his participation. He thought about it for a moment and then said: "I have a Christmas movie? What kind? Оh... "The Holiday Exchange". That's the one, obviously."
6. Heidi Klum
In 2001, German top model and actress Heidi Klum played a fictionalized version of herself in the movie "The Model Male" (cameo). Due to her busy schedule, she refused a cameo role in the second part of the movie. And then she forgot about filming the first one... "No, I didn't shoot there," the celebrity said on the Fitzy and Wippa radio show. And after a brief discussion with the host, she added: "Oh, my God! This is a memory lapse. Do you see what happens when you have four children? They suck everything out of you."
7. Conan O'Brien
The American comedian Conan O'Brien, best known as the host of the popular evening TV show Late Night with Conan O'Brien, starred as Andy Warhol in the film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022). Since his filmography includes dozens of cameo appearances, it's no surprise that he forgot about one of his works. On The Howard Stern Show, he said: "I did that? I forgot I did that."
Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote about actors who died before the end of filming their last movie. Some of them were shown on the screen using stand-ins and CGI technology (three-dimensional computer graphics).
