Archaeologists have discovered a find in Pompeii that, according to them, happens once in a century. It shows what life was like for super-rich people in the ancient Roman city.

During the excavations, a luxurious private bath was found, which included a huge deep pool, hot, warm, and cold rooms, frescoes, and a marble mosaic floor. Experts believe that this is potentially the largest private house of its kind in the ancient city, which could only be afforded by very rich people, MailOnline reports.

The discovered bathhouse includes a locker room with a mosaic floor decorated with geometric patterns lined with marble from all over the Roman Empire. The benches in the locker room indicate that it could have accommodated 30 people.

The entire spa complex begins with a sauna-like hot room with a suspended floor under which hot air was supplied. Next is a colorful warm room, where archaeologists believe the owners rubbed oil into the skin and then removed it with a curved tool called a strigil.

The last stage is the frigidarium, or cold room. This is a large luxurious pool surrounded by red columns and frescoes depicting athletes.

"There are only a few houses that have a private bath complex, so this was something really for the richest of the rich. And this one is so huge – probably the largest bath complex in a private house in Pompeii," says Dr. Gabriel Zuchtrigel, director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park.

The discovered bathhouse was in the path of a catastrophic tidal wave of volcanic debris from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Inside, archaeologists unearthed the remains of two people who barricaded themselves in a small room after the eruption. The man was crushed by a collapsed wall, and the woman was killed by a stream of superheated volcanic gas and ash.
