It became known which boxer wants to replace Fury in the fight with Usyk on May 18

Hearn speaks about the Usyk-Fury fight

Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs) may become Oleksandr Usyk's (21-0, 14 KOs) opponent in a fight on May 18. The likelihood of this happening depends on whether or not Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) can make it to the fight with Ukrainian Tyson Fury.

This was stated by Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn in an interview with talkSport. According to him, the Watford native will be ready to replace Fury in ten weeks after his fight with Francis Ngannou (0-1, 0 KOs), which is scheduled for March 8.

"We'll be ready. The most amazing thing is that he's been able to box four times in 11 months and it's been brilliant for him. It's refreshing for his career after so many periods of inactivity due to Covid and having mandatory defenses. He's going to need some rest at some point, but if he does well against Ngannou and the opportunity arises, I think he'll be ready to fight Fury or Usyk," Hearn said.

It should be noted that Usyk intends to fight on May 18 regardless of the opponent. At the same time, the Ukrainian has already fought Joshua twice in 2021-2022, when he won two victories on points.

Initially, the fight between Oleksandr and Tyson was scheduled for February 17, but the Gypsy King suffered a cut during a sparring session two weeks before the show. The Manchester native apologized for his injury, and a video of the incident was posted online.

The Briton also made a statement about his retirement. The main reasons why Fury will not be able to refuse to fight the Ukrainian again were mentioned.

When asked about the fake nature of the injury, Usyk criticized the Gypsy King. In addition, the fans reacted angrily to the situation.

The incident was also commented on by Croatian boxer Agron Smakic (20-2, 18 KOs), who dealt Fury the ill-fated blow. But ex-champion Carl Froch called the British fighter's injury suspicious.

Bookmakers reacted unexpectedly to the postponement of the Usyk-Fury fight, changing one of the quotes on its outcome. It also became known two conditions that the Ukrainian demanded to fulfill, agreeing to postpone his return to the ring on February 17. In addition, the media announced Tyson and Oleksandr's fees for the show.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, promoter Oleksandr Krasiuk shared Oleksandr Usyk's plans after he fights Tyson Fury. In addition, it became known when the Briton will return to training.
