The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected an appeal against the disqualification of Russian figure skaters from the 2022 Olympic gold medal in the team event. The International Skating Union (ISU) has reviewed the results of the 2022 Olympic Games team event in Beijing, awarding the Russian national team bronze instead of gold due to the disqualification of Kamila Valieva for doping.

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the Russian Figure Skating Federation (RFSF), and the tournament participants themselves (Kamila Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Alexander Galliamov, Anastasia Mishina, Victoria Sinitsina, and Nikita Katsalapov) filed an appeal, but it was rejected.

The arbitrators concluded that Valieva's results "were canceled correctly".

Now the gold medals will go to the U.S. team, and Japan will get the silver.

CAS is also currently considering an appeal from the Canadian team, which took fourth place in the team event and is demanding that the Russians be stripped of their bronze medal too. The timing of the decision on this issue has not yet been announced.

As a reminder, Valieva's analysis at the 2022 Olympics revealed the banned substance tritrimetazidine (TMZ), which led to the postponement of the awarding of the winners of the Games' team events.

Later, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) demanded that the Russian woman be removed from the Olympic tournament. However, CAS allowed her to continue competing.

After that, the IOC decided not to hold an award ceremony for figure skaters if they win any medal at the Olympics in any event.

The results in Beijing were also recognized as unofficial. WADA has sharply criticized Russia over the doping scandal. The figure skater herself, commenting on the scandal, could not hold back her tears during the interview.
