In Kyiv, they dismantled the monument to Pushkin

On Wednesday, November 15, a monument to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was dismantled in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv. For now, it will be kept on the territory of the State Aviation Museum.

This was reported by an OBOZ.UA correspondent. The process of de-Russification continues in the capital.

Thus, on the morning of November 15, the monument to Pushkin remained in place, but around noon, it was reported that the monument was dismantled with the help of special equipment.

"It was only at the end of the second year of the war that the Cabinet of Ministers realized that Pushkin was not part of Ukrainian culture, and officials approved Kyiv's initiative to demolish this monument. And thank you for that. We are demolishing it!" wrote Kyiv City Council member Dmytro Bilotserkovets on his Facebook page.

According to the well-known Ukrainian sculptor Volodymyr Zhuravel, the Pushkin monument is currently being kept with other Soviet-era monuments on the territory of the State Aviation Museum.

Currently, the monument to Soviet activist Mykola Shchors, which was erected on Taras Shevchenko Boulevard, is still in place. Where Pushkin will be kept is still unknown.

Earlier, activists have repeatedly demanded that monuments to Alexander Pushkin and Mykola Shchors be demolished. These calls were made with the help of inscriptions on these monuments.

As OBOZ.UA reported, a bust of Bolshevik Mikhail Kirponos was dismantled in Kyiv. This is one of 69 objects to be removed according to the decision of the city council.
