"If something threatens": the Kremlin named the condition for a nuclear war and recalled the "Special Military Operation" against Ukraine

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia would use nuclear weapons "only if something threatens its existence." He also called nuclear war "the last resort" and accused the West of "irresponsibility" on this topic.

Peskov made the statement at the World Youth Festival in Sochi on March 6. "Russia will use nuclear weapons only if something threatens its existence," he said.

The Kremlin spokesman added that nuclear war is the "last resort," so all the talk about it in the West is "irresponsible."

"Nuclear war is the last resort, the last resort, so all the talk about nuclear war, which is now very much in the West and in European capitals, the United States of America, is extremely irresponsible, extremely dangerous because it is routinizing this topic," Peskov said.

According to him, people "who have a head should be afraid of nuclear war at the level of the instinct of self-preservation."

In addition, Vladimir Putin's spokesman mentioned the war against Ukraine. He stated that in order to understand "what is happening now, in particular with the Special Military Operation," one must allegedly know history, in particular what "happened in Ukraine in 2014."

At the same time, Peskov traditionally criticized the United States, saying that American tanks allegedly "drive through the territory of the Russian Federation" and "this is bad," and "then they burn." He also threatened that the Russian Federation would do everything to make American planes that "encroach on the territory of the Russian Federation" and "burn and fall."

In addition, the Kremlin spokesman said that Moscow "will no longer tolerate criticism of our democracy" because democracy in Russia is allegedly "the best."

At the same time, Peskov expressed hope for improved relations between Russia and the United States.

"Moscow hopes that the United States will sooner or later realize that Russia and America are not enemies," the Russian dictator's spokesman said.

As a reminder, during his address to the Federal Assembly on February 29, Putin again threatened the world with nuclear weapons, saying that Russian troops had already received Sarmat ballistic missiles with a nuclear warhead.

The U.S. State Department called Putin's threats irresponsible and reminded that the United States had repeatedly warned Russia about the consequences of using nuclear weapons.

China also responded to Putin's nuclear threats. It called on all nuclear powers to act prudently and maintain a global strategic balance. Beijing emphasized that there would be no winners in a nuclear war.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul believes that Putin is using nuclear threats to slow down the supply of Western military aid to Ukraine, but now the West is less concerned about the Russian president's nuclear blackmail than before.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană said that Putin is aware of the consequences for Russia if it uses nuclear weapons. All his threats in this regard are psychological intimidation, not real intent.
