Iceland set a historic anti-record in the match against Ukraine in the final of the Euro playoffs

Iceland lost the butt finals for the second time in a row

The Icelandic national football team became the first team in the history of European Championship qualifiers to lose two playoff finals in a row. Incredibly, the Vikings were defeated with the same score of 1-2 in the last minutes, opening the scoring in these matches.

The day before, the northern team lost to Ukraine in Wroclaw. The Icelanders scored first, with their leader Albert Gudmundsson scoring a precise shot. However, in the second half, the guests conceded twice – first, Girona midfielder Viktor Tsyhankov equalized, and in the 84th minute, Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk led Ukraine to Euro 2024.

The Icelanders' defeat in the qualifiers for the 2020 championship was even more shocking. They defeated Romania in the semifinals and then traveled to Budapest to face Hungary.

Already in the 11th minute, the visitors' forward Gylfi Sigurdsson shocked the Hungarians and their fans with a well-aimed shot. The score was 1-0 until the very end, when the hosts turned the game upside down, scoring twice in four minutes with the decisive goal in stoppage time.

Thus, Iceland has set an anti-record for the competition, which will be difficult to surpass with the same development of events in the matches.
