Summer heat can be a real challenge for your garden. High temperatures and lack of rainfall can quickly turn a lush green garden into an arid desert.

However, if you water your plants properly, you can keep them in good condition. TSN will tell you how to provide a sufficient level of moisture to different crops and avoid water stagnation.

Tomatoes

After planting seedlings in open ground, tomatoes should be watered quite abundantly. The amount of watering should also be reduced gradually to avoid excessive growth of green mass. At the same time, tomatoes need high humidity during fruit formation and moderate humidity during fruit ripening.

The depth of soil soaking during the period from planting to tomato formation should be 20-25 cm, and during the period of crop ripening - 25-30 cm. The optimal watering regimen in dry times is 2 times a week and 10 liters of water per 1 square meter.

Cucumbers

Since cucumbers are 90% water, they are very demanding on soil moisture. They need to be watered abundantly but without stagnation.

If the weather in your region is dry and hot, you can water the crops daily or every other day at the rate of 5-7 liters per square meter.

Cabbage

White cabbage, like cucumber, is very demanding on watering. Water should be added to the dug holes around the plants in the evening or in the morning.

The most intensive watering should be done during the active formation of leaves and heads of cabbage. During this period, about 10 liters of water are poured under one plant. And during heat and drought - up to 40-50 liters.

Eggplant

Eggplants need a lot of moisture, but they do not grow well in cold and damp soil. Therefore, if the weather is damp and cloudy, it is better not to water the crop at all but make sure that the soil is moderately moist.

During the period of fruit setting and subsequent ripening, drought can lead to the fall of flowers and fruits, so the plants need to be watered a lot.

Drip irrigation is ideal for eggplants. You need to apply 15 to 30 liters of water per square meter to ensure that the soil is 25-30 cm wet.

Onions

Compared to cucumbers, tomatoes, etc., onions do not need a lot of moisture. As a rule, you need to apply enough water in the first 14-18 days after sowing and for 14-18 days after emergence. It is also worth watering abundantly during the formation of leaves and bulbs. However, remember that stagnant water will delay the ripening of the crop.

During May and June, onions should be watered once a week. In this case, 5-10 liters of water per square meter are applied. In the first half of July, watering is carried out once every 2 weeks, and in the second half of the month, when the bulbs ripen, you can stop moistening the soil altogether.

Carrots and beets

At the beginning of growth, carrots and beets are watered once every 2 weeks. During the period of root crop formation, once a week, and during heat and drought, the soil should be moistened 2-3 times a week. Each time, 15 to 30 liters of water are applied per square meter so that the depth of soil soaking is at least 30 cm.

Radish

Radishes need to be watered regularly every 2-3 days, otherwise the harvest will be bitter and tough. But in the summer heat, you need to moisten the soil every day. You need to pour 10 to 15 liters of water per square meter, and the depth of soil wetting should be at least 20 cm.

Zucchini and pumpkin

Zucchini and pumpkins, as a rule, do not need frequent watering. It is enough to moisten the soil by pouring 2 buckets under the bush 1-2 times a month. However, during extreme heat, you can water every 3 days.
