Healthy and strong seedlings are the key to a good harvest. Therefore, every gardener is ready to try out various life hacks for caring for young plants. In particular, different fertilization options.

A high-quality fertilizer for seedlings that will not burn young roots and give the plant a lot of strength can be made at home from simple ingredients. OBOZ.UA tells you about several such home recipes. Remember to dilute them with water 2 or even 3 times before use.

Banana peel

The banana peel contains a lot of potassium, which is needed by the plant during the period when it releases the first sprouts. To make food from this waste, cut the banana peel into relatively small pieces and cover it with a liter of water. After three days of steeping in a warm and dark place, the fertilizer is ready. All you have to do is stir and strain the liquid.

Wood ash

This is another powerful source of potassium. To make a potassium-rich fertilizer, take 1 tablespoon of dry wood ash and cover it with 2 liters of hot water. Put the container with this solution in a warm and dark place for a day and stir it from time to time. Finally, strain it. It is recommended to alternate ash-based fertilizer with yeast infusion, using them alternately with a break of two weeks.

Yeast

Here's how to prepare a yeast fertilizer that saturates young plants with calcium: Pour 10 grams of dry yeast or 30 grams of compressed yeast into 10 liters of warm water and add 4 tablespoons of sugar. All this is mixed well and left in a warm place for several hours. This is enough time for the yeast to release the required amount of nutrients. The resulting liquid is filtered and diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10. Yeast fertilizer can leach potassium from the soil, which is why it should be alternated with banana peal or ash infusion.

Infusion of nettle and dandelion

These plants also saturate the substrate with potassium. Simply chop up equal amounts of nettle and dandelion leaves and stems and fill a glass jar with them. Do not tamp it down, however. Pour cold water over the herbs to cover them completely. Insist on this fertilizer for a week. Before use, strain the product and dilute it with water in a ratio of 1:10.

Eggshells

Eggshells are a good source of calcium, which is also slowly released into the soil. Grind the shells of two eggs into powder and cover them with a liter of warm (not hot) water. Let it steep for 2-3 days, then strain it and use it to water the seedlings. Do you want to add a potassium component to this fertilizer? Add the peel of one banana, cut into pieces, to the mixture.

Tea brew

Regular tea can also be of great benefit to seedlings. Take 2 teaspoons of black tea without additives and pour 500 ml of boiling water over it. Allow the product to steep for two days, then strain, dilute, and apply it to each plant at the root. The tea will saturate the soil with potassium, zinc, manganese, and chromium. This remedy will be especially useful for tomato and pepper seedlings.

Onion peel

To prepare the fertilizer, take 1 cup of dry onion husks, pour them into a saucepan, and cover them with 2 cups of water. Bring everything to a boil and immediately turn off the heat. Put the pot with the broth in a warm place for two days. When the fertilizer is infused, strain it and dilute it with water in a ratio of 1:10. You can water the seedlings with this product no more than once a week.

Potato broth

When boiling potatoes, do not salt the water in which you will cook them. This liquid can serve as a good potassium fertilizer, especially if you are cooking the root vegetable in its skins. Drain the broth, strain, and cool it. Dilute with clean water and add a drop of iodine before use. This fertilizer is applied to seedlings at the root.
