How Andriy Shevchenko looked like at the beginning of his career. Rare photos of the football legend
The legendary striker of Dynamo Kyiv, AC Milan and the Ukrainian national team, Andriy Shevchenko, celebrated his birthday the day before. The Ballon d'Or winner is 48 years old.
The native of Dvorkivshchyna, Kyiv region, is a pupil of the capital's club, where he made his first-team debut at the age of 18. Before leaving for AC Milan, Shevchenko played 166 matches for Dynamo, scoring 94 goals.
In Italy, the Ukrainian forward was called the Devil from the East. Andriy immediately broke into Serie A, where he became the league's top scorer in his first two seasons.
With AC Milan, Shevchenko won the national championship, the Champions League, and the UEFA Super Cup. After seven seasons in Italy, the footballer moved to Chelsea London and then returned to Dynamo Kyiv.
Together with the Ukrainian national team, the legendary striker became a quarterfinalist at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Shevchenko played 111 matches for the Blue and Yellows and scored 48 goals. In total, he scored 370 times in his career.
Shevchenko also managed to work as a coach. He led the Ukrainian national team to the 1/4 finals of Euro 2020 and also worked briefly with Genoa. In January 2024, the legendary athlete became the president of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF).
