From Chanel No. 5 to Givenchy: 5 exquisite perfumes worn by Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and other beauty icons of the 20th century

Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn's favorites were floral scents.

New fragrances in perfumery are always interesting. But have you ever tried to wear those that were popular in the twentieth century and still remain popular today? Their trails tell more about their owners than the most exquisite outfits.

So, let's find out in the OBOZ.UA article what fragrances were preferred by the beauty symbols of the Golden Hollywood era. Spoiler alert: one of the actresses was so fond of Givenchy perfume that she asked the manufacturers not to release it for sale for some time (all so that her "notes" would remain unique).

1. Marilyn Monroe

The American actress, model, singer and producer Marilyn Monroe was crazy about the smell of Chanel No. 5. In one of her interviews, she even admitted that a few drops of this perfume was all she "put on" before going to bed. Another favorite of the movie star was a bottle of Rose Geranium by Floris, whose scent is woven from accords of rose, geranium, citronella oil and cedarwood. She chose it while filming the cult movie "There's Only Girls in Jazz" (1959).

2. Rita Hayworth

The American actress and dancer Rita Hayworth adored the scent of Shalimar, created by Raymond Guerlain. It is a formula of Jicky and Lanvin Arpege with the addition of vanillin. It contains notes of bergamot, jasmine, iris, rose, and balsamic notes of oriental scents. By the way, it was the Shalimar bottle that won the first prize at the Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition in 1925. After all, its arabesque curves resemble the pools of the famous Shalimar Gardens in the province of Lahore.

3. Elizabeth Taylor

The Anglo-American actress Elizabeth Taylor, like her colleague Rita Hayworth, liked to wear perfume with oriental notes (but from a different manufacturer). We are talking about the exquisite fragrance Bal a Versailles by Jean Desprez, which contains accords of roses, orange blossom, jasmine, bergamot, sandalwood, ylang-ylang, musk, and cedar. An interesting fact: Elizabeth once gave one bottle of her favorite perfume to singer Michael Jackson, and he continued to wear only it after that.

4. Grace Kelly

It is not known what scents the American actress Grace Kelly liked when she was actively acting in movies. But in 1956, on the day she became Princess of Monaco, she walked down the aisle wearing Fleurissimo by Creed. It was created especially for Grace! The delicate combination of Bulgarian rose and sophisticated tuberose, notes of Florentine iris, violet leaves, ylang-ylang and gray amber makes the composition of the perfume the embodiment of true elegance.

5. Audrey Hepburn

British actress, model and dancer Audrey Hepburn was a muse for French fashion designer Hubert de Givenchy. He not only sewed luxurious outfits for her, but also created the delicate fragrance L'Interdit. It combines ginger, Calabrian bergamot, orange blossom, tuberose, jasmine, vetiver, and patchouli. Audrey liked the perfume so much that she asked Hubert not to release it for sale for three years. "Don't even think I'll share this miracle with anyone!" the actress said. In 1960, L'Interdit appeared on store shelves and immediately became legendary: all because girls wanted to have a fragrance like their idol.
