Ukrainian swimmer Vladyslav Bukhov won a gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships, which are taking place in Doha, Qatar, from February 2 to 18, 2024. The 21-year-old native of Donetsk won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 21.44.

The main fight for the gold medal was between Bukhov and the current world champion and three-time Olympic medalist Cameron McEvoy of Australia.

Only one hundredth of a second separated the athletes at the finish line. This award was the Ukrainian's debut at this level of competition.

In addition, this is Ukraine's first gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle in the history of the World Championships and its first victory at the Worlds in 17 years, when in 2007 Oleh Lisogor won the same event, but in the breaststroke.

In total, Ukraine has eight victories in the swimming finals of the World Cup.

It should be noted that there are no Russian swimmers at the World Championships in Doha. World Aquatics has approved the criteria for Russians to acquire neutral status, but only in individual events and a maximum of one athlete per distance.

After that, Russian two-time Olympic swimming champion Yevgeny Rylov threw his trademark tantrum.
