Ukrainian villages are on the UN list

For the first time in history, the Ukrainian villages of Vorokhta and Urych have been included in the list of the best tourist destinations according to the United Nations (UN). They were included in the Best Tourism Villages rating, which was created by representatives of the Advisory Council.

The applications of Ukrainian contestants were selected among more than 260 participants from more than 60 countries. Information about this can be found on the UN Tourism website.

Vorokhta and Urych joined the list along with 53 other villages. We remind you that in early May 2024, the State Agency for Tourism Development sent five applications: Vorokhta, Zelenyi Hai, Kvasiv, Olyka, and Urych.

The winners will be awarded on November 28 at the III National Tourism Summit in Lviv.

Vorokhta is a picturesque village in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, located among the Carpathian Mountains. People come here all year round to pick mushrooms, ski, practice various sports, enjoy the mountain air, and walk through the dense forest.

In the 1930s, several boarding houses for wealthy tourists were built here, and since then the village has been actively developing. This is due to its favorable geographical location, rich history, and friendly residents.

Urych is located not too far from Vorokhta, in the neighboring Lviv region. This village is much less known to tourists, and its infrastructure is less developed. Nevertheless, the UN experts appreciated the beautiful scenery, ecology, and tourism prospects of the Ukrainian village.

"Urych and Vorokhta will not only receive mentoring from UN Tourism and potential financial support from foreign donors, but will also draw attention to their cultural, natural, and gastronomic riches from both Ukrainian and foreign travelers," said Mariana Oleskiv, head of the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine.
