For the first time in history. An incredible world record has been set in football

Saudi Arabian football club Al Hilal from Riyadh has set a new world record for the number of consecutive victories. Having beaten Al Ittihad 2-0 in the second match of the Asian Champions League quarterfinals, Jorge Jesus' men won for the 28th time, scoring 81 goals and conceding only 8.

The previous record from 2016 belonged to the Welsh club Newcastle United - 27. Before that, the world record (26) had been held for 44 years and belonged to Ajax.

Al Hilal is one of four in the division that was taken over by the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Wealth Fund (PIF) in June 2023, along with Al Nasr, Al Ahli and Al Ittihad.

Their success has been the result of the performance of former Fulham and Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, with the Serbia international scoring 29 goals in 28 league and continental competitions. Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have also played an important role.

Al Hilal's winning streak includes 16 games in the Saudi Arabian league, three in the domestic cup and eight in the Asian Champions League.

"It's a world record, but it's not a title. The titles are the League, the Cup and the Asian Champions League. But it's true that the more you win, the closer you are to achieving your goal, and we welcome that," ESPN quoted Jesus as saying.

The last time the team failed to win was on September 21 last year, when they drew 1-1 against Damascus.
