The 2024 World Ice Hockey Championship, which took place in the Czech cities of Prague and Ostrava from May 10 to 26, became the most attended in history. According to the official Instagram account of the tournament's main arena, the record was set ahead of schedule.

After the semifinal matches, the attendance of the World Cup totaled 765,385 spectators (12,345 on average per match). The O2 Arena in Prague has a capacity of 17,413 spectators, and the Ostrava Arena has a capacity of 9,109.

The Czech capital will host the deciding games. In the final, the hosts will play the Swiss national team, which only beat the reigning champions, the Canadians, in a series of post-match shootouts.

The previous record for World Cup attendance was set in 2015. The tournament was also held in the Czech Republic. In total, 741,690 spectators attended the matches in Prague (the arena capacity was 17,383) and Ostrava (8,812).

The national teams of Russia (in 2015 took 2nd place) and Belarus (in 2015 was eliminated in the 1/4 finals) are not participating in the current tournament.
