Our compatriots showed a brilliant result

Ukrainian biathlete Daryna Chalyk won gold in the women's mass start at the 2025 Universiade, which took place in Turin, Italy, from January 13 to 23. Another representative of our team, Oleksandra Merkushyna, came in second.

From the first firing line, the race was not easy: the French women were in the lead, and the Ukrainians had to catch up. Chalyk made a few mistakes, but she was confidently closing the gap, demonstrating excellent speed.

At the final shooting, it was Daryna who proved to be the coolest – she closed all the targets and gained a 40-second advantage, which allowed her to finish with the yellow and blue flag.

Oleksandra Merkushyna took second place. Despite a penalty lap at the last turn, she retained her silver position, adding another medal to the relay gold medal. The bronze went to Germany's Luise Müller, while the French women, who led the race in the first laps, were left without awards.

Commenting on her success, 23-year-old Chalyk said she was very pleased with her performance.

"I'm happy that I coped with the shooting. I tried to stay calm before the last water line. Thank you all for your support," said the biathlete.

"I gave it my all. I am very pleased. This is a great lesson for me," Merkushyna added.

As a result, Ukraine won the biathlon medal standings at the 2025 Universiade, winning 9 medals – 4 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.

The main winner was Bohdan Borkovskyi, who brought the team two gold medals. Daryna Chalyk, Oleksandra Merkushyna, and Serhii Suprun also won gold medals in the single mixed relay.

Poland took the second place in the standings with six medals, including two gold medals, while France, which won 3 medals, rounded out the top three.
