Titled athlete suspended from sport

Former WBC light heavyweight champion Grigory Drozd has been caught doping, TASS reported citing data from the International Doping Agency (ITA). The athlete has been suspended since September 9 based on the database of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory (LIMS). The violation was recorded on September 28, 2014.

The day before, the Russian won the WBC world title by defeating Poland's Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

"Where were they ten years ago when I was performing? Everyone and everything was seen in the fight against Wlodarczyk, there is nothing to discuss. And the fact that they remembered me after ten years, it's some kind of nonsense," - commented the boxer himself in an interview with TASS.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) promised to follow the development of the situation. "The WBC takes any such information seriously," the council told TASS.

The 45-year-old Thrush owned the WBC championship belt in 2014-2015, having defended it once - in a fight with Polish boxer Lukasz Janik in 2015. In March 2016, the WBC gave Drozd the status of "champion on vacation."

At the end of 2017, the athlete officially announced the end of his professional career. He has in his asset 40 victories and one defeat. 28 victories the Russian boxer won by knockout.
