Experts name a typical mistake many passengers make when a flight is delayed

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport a few hours earlier than the scheduled departure

Experts warn that any flight can be delayed due to bad weather, lack of staff, breakdowns, or other reasons. However, despite this, you should still arrive at the airport in advance.

Airline co-founders, travel consultants, and travel agency owners told Best Life about this. They argue that there is no need to postpone check-in because of a delay.

Usually, airlines warn passengers about the problem in advance and indicate the approximate time when the plane will be able to depart. However, you should always keep in mind that the weather may improve dramatically. For example, the breakdown may be minor, etc.

In this regard, Maria LaDuca, owner of The Agency Chic travel agency, advises arriving at the airport two to three hours earlier than the scheduled departure time, regardless of whether there is a delay.

This will help to be safe in case the flight is unexpectedly postponed for several hours due to a quick fix.

For example, the American Airlines website states, "If your flight is delayed, please arrive at the airport to check in at the originally scheduled departure time." However, not all passengers follow the advice of experts, so they often miss their flights.

Becky Moore, travel expert and founder of Global Grasshopper travel agency, emphasizes that flight delay times on the board are usually unreliable and only approximate. Travelers need to be prepared for any shifts.

Eva Lerma, travel consultant and co-founder of MyTravelTripod, added that airlines reserve the right to increase and decrease delays, so passengers will not be able to appeal this decision.

These tips are especially relevant during the New Year and Christmas holidays, as the weather is most changeable in winter, and the flow of tourists increases significantly.
