"Everyone was screaming": former Ukraine player names those responsible for the team's failure at Euro 2024

Kucher assessed the performance of Ukrainians at Euro 2024

The legendary Shakhtar Donetsk defender Oleksandr Kucher has named journalists and experts as one of the main culprits behind the failure of the Ukrainian national team at the 2024 European Championship. According to the participant of two continental championships, expectations from the national team were greatly overheated, and their level was exaggerated.

Kucher said this in an interview with NV.ua. The former center back, who played 57 matches for the Ukrainian national team, noted that the current situation completely repeated the experience of Euro 2016 when the Blue and Yellows failed to score a single point or even score a goal in a group with Germany, Northern Ireland and Poland.

"I said before the European Championship that the press should put pressure on the players, give them information that Romanians know how to play football, so that they know and understand that this will not be a passing game. At Euro 2016, everyone was shouting that we would leave the group, but we lost to the Germans, played well, and then said that we would win against the Irish, leave the group, and then we got beaten there, then there. The press should write that they can play," Kucher said.

At Euro 2024, the Ukrainian national team failed to advance from the group, scoring as many points as all the other tournament participants, but took last place in the quartet.
