European biathlon champion shot himself in the stomach: he is now in coma

Famous Bulgarian biathlete Krasimir Anev was found with a gunshot wound near the Drenov Dol dam near Kyustendil. According to Dir.bg, citing the police, he shot himself in the stomach with a registered pistol.

After being hospitalized at the Military Medical Academy, the victim's condition was stabilized, but it remains very serious. He was put into a medically induced coma.

Journalists report that the multiple European and Universiade medalist, who ended his career in 2020, has firearms because he served in the army. Since 2021, Anev, 36, has been an instructor and has been involved in the physical training of the Bulgarian Air Force.

There is currently no official information on whether this was a suicide attempt, but Anev's last post on his Facebook profile indicates that the former biathlete was likely having personal problems.

He published the words of the writer Pavel Vezhinov, "Any betrayal begins with trust" and commented succinctly, "Absolute truth".

Anev has a 6-year-old daughter. A few years ago, he divorced her mother Kristina Nachova.

In 2019, Anev won a gold medal at the 2019 European Championships in the individual race in Raubichi, Belarus.

He became a bronze and silver medalist at the continental championships four times. During the 12th season, he participated in the Biathlon World Cup.
