On the night of Wednesday, January 8, explosions were heard in the city of Engels, Saratov region of the Russian Federation. An air base of the Russian Aerospace Forces (the official name of the airfield is "Engels-2") is located near this town.

After a series of explosions, a fire broke out there. Footage of the aftermath of the "cotton" was posted online by Russians.

"Engels airfield, Saratov region, Russia – explosions, fires," Ukrainian monitoring publics informed.

Soon it became known that Engels had been hit by a preliminary hit to an oil storage facility.

Preliminarily, the oil depot of the "Kristal" plant of Rosrezerv was hit. It is intended to store aviation fuel for the "Engels-2" air base.

Later, the "Crimean Wind" Telegram channel published a photo confirming that this facility was the target of the attack. A powerful fire was recorded directly on the territory where the fuel tanks are located.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces have confirmed the destruction of the "Kombinat Kristal" oil depot in Engels, Saratov region of the Russian Federation, on the night of January 8. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the attack caused serious logistical problems for the occupiers' strategic aviation and reduced their ability to strike at Ukrainian settlements.

Rosrezerv's "Kombinat Kristal" oil depot is located about 7 km from the "Engels-2" air base. The facility has at least 70 fuel tanks.

The governor of Saratov region, Roman Busargin, said that Russian air defense allegedly shot down a UAV.

"There is some debris hitting an industrial facility in Engels. Fire brigades and emergency services are working at the scene," he wrote.

According to local residents, there were about 40 explosions in total, and sirens were sounded several times in the city.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on Monday, January 6, a high column of smoke rose in the city of Kamensk-Shakhtynsky, Rostov region of the Russian Federation, near military warehouses where raw materials for the production of rocket fuel are stored.
